Ray-Ban celebrated the launch of a new line of sunglasses inspired by materiality and handmade craft by transforming a bare music venue into a factory workshop experience. The event celebrated the American maker movement and the rich history of New York’s Garment District. Calling the experience District 1937, guests were invited to engage with the five materials used to manufacture these frames: denim, leather, steel, titanium, and velvet. Each material was split into a distinct vignette, showcasing the brand’s take on the materials’ personality, and allowing guests to explore the tactility of each material through various displays and by bringing in live artists who work in those mediums. The overall look and feel of the environment took on a grungy, lived-in aesthetic; each detail from tools found in the vignettes to the step and repeat moment reflected the aesthetic of a factory, fully enveloping guests in the District 1937 experience. The night concluded with a performance by MS MR and a surprise show by Blondie, with a grand reveal moment designed into the stage set.
